The Somerset Youth Angling Club (“The Club”) is committed to providing a safe environment for all members, volunteers, and visitors. This Health and Safety Policy outlines the measures The Club takes to prevent accidents, manage risks, and ensure the well-being of everyone involved in its activities.

2. Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to:
- All activities organized by The Club, including fishing events, training sessions, and competitions.
- All members, volunteers, visitors, and third-party participants.
3. Responsibilities
3.1 The Committee
The Committee is responsible for:
- Ensuring that this policy is reviewed and updated annually.
- Conducting regular risk assessments for all Club activities and facilities.
- Providing resources and training to promote health and safety awareness.
3.2 Volunteers and Coaches
Volunteers and coaches must:
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe manner.
- Report any hazards or incidents to the Health and Safety Officer immediately.
- Familiarize themselves with the risk assessments and safety procedures relevant to their roles.
3.3 Members and Visitors
Members and visitors are expected to:
- Follow all safety instructions and guidelines provided by The Club.
- Use equipment responsibly and report any damage or faults.
- Notify The Club of any medical conditions or specific needs that may affect their safety.
3.4 Health and Safety Officer
The Health and Safety Officer will:
- Oversee the implementation of this policy.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities and equipment.
- Investigate any accidents or incidents and recommend corrective actions.
4. Risk Assessments
Risk assessments will be carried out for all Club activities, including but not limited to:
- Fishing events and competitions.
- Transportation of members and equipment.
- Use of Club facilities and equipment.
- Risk assessments will identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend control measures.
5. Emergency Procedures
- All members and volunteers must be familiar with the emergency procedures relevant to The Club’s activities.
- First aid kits will be available at all Club events.
In case of an emergency:
- Call emergency services if necessary (999 in the UK).
- Notify the Health and Safety Officer immediately.
- Accidents and incidents must be reported using The Club’s Accident Report Form and reviewed by the Committee.
6. Equipment Safety
All equipment provided by The Club must be:
- Maintained in good condition.
- Inspected regularly for signs of damage or wear.
- Members must use personal protective equipment (e.g., life jackets) as required for specific activities.
- Any faulty or damaged equipment must be reported and removed from use until repaired.
7. Environmental Considerations
- Members must take care to minimize environmental impacts during Club activities.
- Waste, including fishing lines and hooks, must be disposed of safely and responsibly.
- Members are encouraged to participate in activities that promote environmental conservation.
8. Monitoring and Review
