Annual CRT Regional Celebration
Event for Young Anglers
The Taunton Angling Association (TAA) recently hosted the annual CRT Regional Celebration event for young anglers on the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal at Charlton Orchard. The day was graced by glorious Somerset sunshine, making it an ideal setting for the competition.
Fishing commenced at 10 am, featuring two cadet and nine junior anglers, all eager to start. The young participants quickly got into the spirit of the event, catching silvers within moments. They fished diligently for a total of four hours, maintaining focus throughout. The anglers used whips and poles, with a variety of baits including maggot and worm.
The results
In the cadet section, George emerged victorious with a net of silvers weighing in at 2lb 14oz, while Jacob secured second place with 1lb 6oz. For the juniors, Josh clinched the top spot with a cracking bream caught 15 minutes before the end, weighing 7lb 13oz. Zepher followed with a lovely net of silvers and a bonus perch caught just before the event concluded, weighing 3lb 1oz. Ava took third place with another impressive net of silvers weighing 2lb 14oz.
Special congratulations
A special congratulations to Oliver, who was awarded a Matrix feeder rod for being the star performer of the day.
The Canals & River Trust Support
The success of this event would not have been possible without the generous support of The Canals & River Trust, who provided the trophies and prizes. Matrix also played a crucial role by supporting the event with some excellent tackle donations, ensuring the young anglers were well-rewarded for their efforts. The dedication of parents and volunteer helpers was evident as they spent time with the young anglers, offering coaching and advice. Their support ensured that all participants not only caught fish but also had a fantastic and memorable day.
Taunton Angling Association
Taunton Angling Association have said they very much looks forward to seeing everyone again next year for another exciting day of fishing. The continued success of these events highlights the importance of fostering a love for angling among the younger generation and providing them with opportunities to hone their skills and enjoy the great outdoors.
