The Somerset Youth Angling Club Junior Series returns to one of Somerset’s most exciting and popular venues — Burton Springs Fishery in Bridgwater — for Match 6 of the 2026 season.

This venue always produces a great day’s fishing and is a real test of skill for our cadets and juniors. With a healthy stock of carp, tench, skimmers, and roach, Burton Springs offers something for every young angler, whether you’re targeting quick bites on maggot or building a weight on paste and pellets.

The match is part of the SYAC Junior League, meaning every fish counts towards valuable points in the season-long standings. Expect an enjoyable, educational, and competitive day, supported by our fantastic team of coaches and volunteers.

Burton Springs Fishery, located near Bridgwater, is a premier mixed-species venue and a firm favourite among juniors and adults alike. The fishery’s well-stocked lakes provide a great balance between fun and challenge — perfect for developing young anglers’ match skills.

Its tidy pegs, safe access, and beautiful setting make it ideal for junior matches and coaching events, and it has long been one of the cornerstones of SYAC’s event calendar.

Somerset Youth Angling Club (SYAC) gives young people across Somerset the opportunity to learn, compete, and grow through fishing. Our structured matches and coaching sessions help juniors build confidence, sportsmanship, and lifelong friendships.
 
All events are fully supervised by DBS-checked volunteers and qualified coaches, ensuring a positive, inclusive experience for everyone involved.

With a peaceful setting, well-maintained lakes, and excellent on-site facilities, it's the perfect place for young anglers to learn, grow, and enjoy their fishing.

The fishery is home to a wide variety of species, including carp, bream, tench, roach, and perch—offering something for every skill level. Whether juniors are learning the basics of float fishing or testing their skills on bigger fish, Burton Springs provides a safe and welcoming environment for all.

With easy access, friendly staff, and a reputation for quality fishing, Burton Springs is an ideal venue for both relaxed coaching sessions and exciting competitions. It's the kind of place where memories are made, confidence is built, and a lifelong love of fishing begins.

  2. Feeder Rod & Reel with max 8lb line ( Recommended 8lb )
  3. Waggler & reel with Max 8lb Line ( Recommended 4 - 5lb )
  4. Landing Net & Landing Pole
  5. Disgorger
  6. 18 - 10 Hooks ( BARBLESS HOOKS ONLY ).
