The Somerset Youth Angling Club Junior League returns to the popular Sedges Fishery in Bridgwater for Match 9 of the 2026 season, this time fishing on the renowned Brick Lake. Known for its var

0iety of species and exciting year-round sport, Brick Lake promises plenty of bites and a brilliant end-of-season challenge for our young anglers.
 
Open to Cadets and Juniors, this match forms part of the SYAC Junior Points Series and offers another chance to climb the leaderboard before the season closes. Anglers can expect a fun, friendly and competitive day on the bank with the support of our experienced coaches and volunteers.

Brick Lake at The Sedges Fishery is one of Somerset’s best-known coarse fishing waters, offering fantastic all-round sport for anglers of every level. With a healthy mix of carp, skimmers, roach, tench, and F1s, it provides steady action throughout the day and a great learning opportunity for juniors.

Its flat banks, good access and welcoming atmosphere make The Sedges the ideal venue for both matches and coaching sessions, perfectly suited for junior and family-friendly angling.

Somerset Youth Angling Club (SYAC) exists to help young people discover the joy of fishing across Somerset. Through coaching, competitions and community days, we give juniors the opportunity to learn essential angling skills, make friends, and enjoy the outdoors in a safe, welcoming environment.
 
All events are delivered by DBS-checked volunteers and qualified coaches who ensure every participant has a positive, rewarding experience.

Junior fishing at The Sedges in Bridgwater is a fantastic opportunity for young anglers to develop their skills and enjoy the great outdoors. The well-maintained lakes are stocked with a variety of fish species, including carp, roach, and tench, making it an ideal spot for juniors to experience the thrill of their first catch. With designated safe fishing areas, easy access to the water, and knowledgeable staff on hand to provide guidance and tips, The Sedges offers a supportive and fun environment for children to learn and enjoy fishing. This family-friendly venue ensures that junior anglers have a memorable and rewarding fishing adventure.

  1. Short Pole / Long Pole ( 0.5 - 1.5g Float / Rigs ), Plummet
  2. Feeder Rod & Reel with max 10lb line ( Recommended 10lb )
  3. Waggler & reel with Max 8lb Line ( Recommended 4 - 5lb )
  4. Landing Net & Landing Pole
  5. Disgorger
  6. 18 - 10 Hooks ( BARBLESS HOOKS ONLY ).
