Get Fishing Angling Trust

At Somerset Youth Angling Club (SYAC), we are proud to work closely with the Angling Trust and support their nationally recognised Get Fishing campaign — an initiative designed to make angling more accessible, inclusive, and appealing to young people and families across the UK.

The Get Fishing programme, run by the Angling Trust and supported by the Environment Agency, offers free or low-cost fishing sessions aimed at introducing newcomers to the sport in a safe, welcoming environment. SYAC actively delivers these sessions throughout the year, combining structured coaching with fun, hands-on experiences that give young anglers a proper introduction to the joys of fishing.

Together, we share the goal of building a lifelong love for fishing among the next generation. Our joint efforts focus not only on teaching essential skills like watercraft, fish care, and casting, but also on promoting the wider benefits of angling — from improved mental wellbeing to environmental awareness and social connection.

By partnering with the Angling Trust and embracing the Get Fishing framework, SYAC is helping to break down barriers to entry, engage more young people in the outdoors, and ensure the future of our sport is bright, diverse, and sustainable.

Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your skills, our sessions — backed by qualified coaches and supported by the Angling Trust — provide a perfect first step into the world of fishing.
