The main lakes at Avalon include Heath Lake, Moors Lake, and Canal Lake. Each has its own character: Heath is the main specimen lake holding carp well over 20 lb, while Moors and Canal are perfect for pleasure and junior anglers targeting a wide variety of coarse fish. Depths average between 4 and 8 feet, and all pegs are well-built and accessible, with several suitable for wheelchair users. 

For young and family anglers, the Canal Lake is the ideal starting point. It’s packed with roach, rudd, perch, skimmers, tench, and smaller carp that respond well to simple float or feeder tactics. Bites are frequent, making it a great confidence builder for beginners. Coaches often use this lake for junior sessions as it offers easy casting, consistent depth, and a guaranteed bend in the rod. 

Heath Lake caters to more experienced anglers looking for larger carp, while Moors Lake offers mixed sport, perfect for developing different fishing techniques. Whether using poles, wagglers, or feeders, Avalon’s well-stocked waters deliver year-round sport in a calm and welcoming setting. 

The fishery has excellent facilities, including on-site toilets and safe parking close to the pegs. It’s managed to a very high standard, ensuring fish welfare and a clean, well-kept environment — ideal for families and youth groups. 

Rules are straightforward: barbless hooks only, no fixed leads, and all anglers must follow fishery guidelines to keep the venue safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Avalon suits a wide range of tackle setups, making it ideal for both beginners and improving juniors. 

Canal & Moors Lakes: 

• Whip or Pole: Up to 8 m for close-in fishing
• Float Rod: 10–12 ft light waggler setup with 3–5 lb mainline and size 18–14 barbless hooks
• Feeder Rod: Light quiver tip or 10 ft method feeder rod with 4–6 lb line
• Hooklengths: 2–3 lb mono for silvers, 4–5 lb for carp
• Tactics: Float fishing at 4–6 m with maggots or corn, or small groundbait feeders for bream and tench

Heath Lake (Carp):
 

• 2.75 lb test curve carp rods
• 10–12 lb mainline
• Hair rigs with inline or safety leads
• 2.5 oz leads for casting accuracy
• Small baiting spoon or catapult for controlled feeding
• Carp-safe unhooking mat and net

Avalon responds well to natural, simple baits that keep the fish active throughout the day — great for juniors who love consistent bites. 

Canal & Moors Lakes: 

• Maggots (red, white, or mixed)
• Casters
• Sweetcorn
• Worms or chopped worm
• 4 mm soft pellets or expanders
• Micro pellets for feed
• Light groundbait mixes with a pinch of pellet for attraction

Heath Lake (Specimen Carp):
 

• Boilies (bright single hookbaits or small 12–15 mm baits)
• 8 mm pellets
• Sweetcorn and bread discs
• Small PVA bags with pellet and crumb mix
• Liquid attractants and glugs for added scent

Feeding little and often works best — small handfuls of pellets or a ball of groundbait every few minutes can keep the swim lively and hold fish for longer periods.
